Lecture in the context of the VUB gender week.
What role do film and art have in contexts of political and societal change? For this year's Machteld De Metsenaere lecture the Afghan director Sahraa Karimi will talk about the experiences of artists in Afghanistan and the protection of their artistic freedom, incorporating her own life experiences, as she herself fled Afghanistan. Afterwards, Sahraa Karimi will be in conversation with Gie Goris and answer questions by the audience.
On Tuesday the 8th of March, her movie Hava, Maryam, Ayeshe was shown at Bozar.

The Machteld De Metsenaere Lecture is an annual lecture organized by RHEA (Research Centre on Gender, Diversity and Intersectionality), and named after prof. em. Machteld De Metsenaere, for years the driving force behind the first academic centre for women's studies at the VUB, later renamed as RHEA.
VUB's Gender Week is a week full of activities with a focus on gender and intersectionality, organized by RHEA in collaboration with different partners.
